Speaking at SocialDay: A Journey Into Social Media Accessibility

What an incredible three days SocialDay® turned out to be! As someone passionate about making digital spaces more inclusive, being invited to speak on the social media accessibility panel was both an honour and an opportunity to share knowledge that can truly make a difference.

A Heartfelt Thank You

First and foremost, my deepest gratitude goes to Magali Mas D'Amato for both extending the invitation and expertly hosting our panel. Your leadership made our discussion flow seamlessly, and your passion for accessibility shone through every moment.

To Lucy Hall, the incredible organiser behind this amazing event and the heart of Digital Women® – thank you for creating a space where meaningful conversations about digital inclusion can flourish. Your dedication to bringing together diverse voices in the digital space is truly inspiring.

An Inspiring Panel Discussion

I was privileged to share the stage with two remarkable panellists: Alvin Gunputh and Georgina Twelftree. Together, we dove deep into the world of social media accessibility, exploring everything from inclusive design principles to the significant economic impact of the purple pound.

Our conversation centered around practical, actionable steps that content creators and businesses can take to make their social media presence more inclusive. It's one thing to understand the importance of accessibility – it's another to provide clear, simple strategies that people can implement immediately.

An Engaged and Enthusiastic Audience

The audience was absolutely incredible! Your thoughtful questions during the panel demonstrated a genuine commitment to learning and improving. What made it even more special was seeing how the conversation continued long after we left the stage, with attendees approaching us with follow-up questions and sharing their own experiences. This kind of engaged dialogue is exactly what drives meaningful change in our industry.

Reconnecting with Fellow Speakers

One of the unexpected joys of SocialDay was reconnecting with Mel Barfield and Adam Faulkner, both of whom I had the pleasure of meeting at separate speaking events last year. There's something magical about sharing stages with fellow speakers and then crossing paths again at events like this. You both never fail to brighten my day, and seeing familiar faces in the speaking circuit always reminds me of the wonderful community we've built together.

It was also fantastic to see Xandrina Allday in action – witnessing talented speakers do what they do best is always energizing and inspiring.

A Perfect Ending

After our accessibility panel, I had the chance to catch Mel's panel with Claire Hoang, and it was absolutely amazing. The raw honesty and humor they brought to their discussion was refreshing and authentic – exactly the kind of genuine conversation that makes events like SocialDay so valuable. It was the perfect way to cap off what had already been a fabulous day.

Looking Forward

Events like SocialDay remind me why I'm so passionate about digital accessibility and inclusion. When we create spaces for meaningful dialogue, share practical knowledge, and connect with others who share our values, we're not just networking – we're building a more inclusive digital future.

Thank you to everyone who made SocialDay such a memorable experience. Here's to continuing these important conversations and making the digital world more accessible for everyone.
